Is everyone hypnotizable?
Hypnosis is a modified state of consciousness that can occur spontaneously (by listening to music, watching a movie, meditating or sketching, for example), but is sought after during the session.
Yes, everyone is hypnotizable, because everyone has this ability to enter hypnosis. What is different is how people enter this modified state of consciousness. There is no single method for everyone. Are there any contraindications to hypnosis ?
There are no contraindications as such in the sense that we would speak of drug contraindications. In other words, in absolute terms, all patients can benefit from the hypnotic practice. However, there may be difficulties in patients with a psychotic profile.
Is hypnosis a form of sleep?
Despite the strong relaxation that can be experienced during the hypnotic experience, many studies in neuroscience show that it is not the case. The hypnotic state ressemble more a state of paradoxical sleep than a form of sleep.
Is the existence of hypnosis scientifically proven?
The hypnotic state is now known, described and thus attested in both psychology (theory of psychic dissociation and relational dynamics) and in neuroscience (particular neurological activations at the central level). To be very synthetic we can describe the hypnotic state as being both the activation of attentional circuits and circuits of relaxation in an individual.
Let us add that hypnosis is the situation where the person in a hypnotic state can perceive differently his reality and thus modify the way he perceives and lives it. These latter aspects also give rise to formal evidence, particularly in anthropology and again in psychology. CAN we wake up in the middle of a session ?
During the session, the patient does not sleep, he is in a state of paradoxical awakening. He can wake up if he is disturbed by a sufficiently strong external stimuli.
AM I GOING TO FORGET what happened during the session ?
Each individual is different, but you will not wake up amnesic. Some details will take a little bit of time to come back to you and others will be quick to remember when you wake up but will fade after a while.
However, studies show that if it is really necessary, a brief interview allows everyone to find all the details of what he has experienced. There is no amnesia but a difficulty more or less important depending on the context to remember in detail the experience. In any case, a subject who wishes to remain vigilant and remember everything can do it easily and without effort. Can i find forgotten memories during the hypnosis ?
Some will say no, that your brain does not work like a hard drive. My experience tells me the opposite. All the people who have gone back to their memories have been able to remember the past moment that they had completely forgotten. And that with many details, as if they were there !
Can I be manipulated while i am under hypnosis?
The hypnotherapist can not force the hypnotized person to do anything that goes against his morals or personal ethics.
A person can maintain as much as he wants control over everything that happens during the session, even if the representation that one has of the hypnosis is sometimes that one gives up his free will to the will of the other. In fact, if a person does not experience hypnosis as they wish, they do not enter the state of mind that allows the hypnosis and often they develop a sense of discomfort sufficient for the hypnosis. Can i stay "stuck" in a state of hypnosis after the session ?
If the connection between the hypnotherapist and the person hypnotized were to be cut for one reason or another, the person will spontaneously return to an ordinary state of consciousness after ten to fifteen minutes of inactivity.
DO I have to schedule multiple sessions?
Depending on the work you want to do, several sessions may be necessary. But in general, one 1h45-2h session is enough to find the cause of a problem and solve it.
